Which examinations are available?
Centre Lumena provides X-rays, ultrasound, mammography with tomosynthesis and CT Scan Cone Beam imaging, among other services. It also offers certain procedures, including injections and biopsies. The appropriate examination depends on your prescription and circumstances; confirm availability directly with Lumena.
Why can the right imaging test help?
The aim is not to obtain the most detailed image possible. It is to choose a test that answers a specific question raised during your consultation. Your doctor then considers the result alongside your symptoms and clinical examination. This can inform a useful decision without ordering unnecessary tests. Belgian medical imaging recommendations help doctors choose the appropriate examination for each situation.
For your GP
When the assessment calls for it, targeted imaging may help your GP clarify a diagnosis, investigate a concern after an injury or decide whether another opinion is needed. Its value depends on the clinical question: the result should be able to guide what happens next.
For your physiotherapist
If a test has been prescribed, its report may help your physiotherapist take the medical diagnosis and any precautions into account during rehabilitation. It complements the assessment of your movement, pain and abilities; it does not replace that assessment or the gradual adjustment of exercises as you progress.
Imaging is therefore not needed before every course of treatment. For common low back pain, for example, the Belgian Health Care Knowledge Centre advises against routine imaging: findings on a scan are not always the cause of the pain.
Before your appointment
Lumena states that a medical prescription is required for an examination. Bring:
- your examination request and an identity document;
- previous examinations or medical documents relevant to the requested test;
- anything else, including medicines, the reception team has asked you to bring.
Tell the centre if you may be pregnant or have an allergy. Confirm any preparation instructions and examination details when you book.

Book directly with Centre Lumena on its website or by phone. Rebalance does not manage Lumena's imaging appointments. If you are unsure which examination to choose, check the wording of your prescription with the centre or the professional who issued it.
