Running: assessment and return to activity in Ixelles

Pain disrupting your runs? Prepare an assessment, understand a gradual return to running and meet the Rebalance physiotherapy team.

If pain makes you cut runs short or hesitate about returning, start by noting when it appears and how it changes afterwards. Assessment helps clarify what is limiting your activity and discuss the next steps.

Useful details to prepare

  • Your running routine before symptoms and recent changes in distance, speed or terrain.
  • When discomfort starts and how it changes in the following hours.
  • Daily tasks that are difficult and activities that remain comfortable.
  • Previous injuries, advice already received and the goals you want to discuss.

Your usual route in Bois de la Cambre or another local area can be a useful example. You do not need a sports watch to prepare this information.

When can I return?

This depends on the injury and your current abilities. A return programme may alternate walking and running with rest between sessions. There is no weekly progression suitable for everyone. Ask what signs should guide changes in duration or intensity. Sharp pain, persistent swelling or pain worsening as you run is a reason to stop and seek advice. If pain is at the back of the heel, our article on Achilles tendon pain when running explains what to note before an assessment.

What can physiotherapy add?

Assessment explores movement, strength and the demands of your activity. It helps select exercises and progression. An upcoming race date cannot guarantee recovery; the goal may need to change.
